US Sources Disagree on the Referrer Reward — $250 or $500. Canada's Number Is Separate.

What every source agrees on
On the buyer side, coverage of Tesla's referral program is consistent: 3 months of free FSD (Supervised) on Model 3, Model Y and premium Cybertruck trims, with Model S and Model X still excluded following the March 2026 change that replaced upfront cash discounts with software trials across the board.
Where it stops agreeing: the referrer's number
On the referrer side, the figure is not stable across sources. One 2026 guide reports a $500 Tesla credit for a completed referral; other 2026 coverage reports $250 for the same program. Both are presented as current 2026 figures — this isn't an old-guide-versus-new-guide split we can resolve by date, it's two live sources landing on different numbers for the same reward. Tesla's own Refer & Earn support page is the only authority for the figure that actually applies; independent guides — including good ones — can lag or misread a change and go stale within weeks.
Why we're not picking a side
We could report whichever number sounds more current and move on, but that's exactly the failure mode this disagreement demonstrates: a figure repeated confidently by a secondary source isn't the same as a figure confirmed at checkout. Until Tesla's support page and a completed order summary agree, treat $250 and $500 as two reported figures, not two facts to average or split the difference on.
The Canadian number this doesn't touch
This $250-versus-$500 disagreement is a U.S.-dollar figure from U.S.-facing coverage — it isn't the number a Canadian referrer actually sees. Whatever it eventually resolves to, it has no bearing on the Canadian program, which pays a referrer up to C$325 in Tesla Credits per qualifying referral, or C$650 if the buyer adds FSD (Supervised). That figure comes from Tesla Support Canada, not a blog guide, and it is the one to compare your own order summary against.
What to do with this if you're referring in Canada
- Don't import a U.S.-reported referrer figure into a Canadian expectation — the two programs are tracked, and apparently reported, separately.
- Confirm the Canadian referrer reward against Tesla Support Canada's Refer & Earn page, not a third-party guide, however recent it looks.
- Whatever the order summary shows the referrer earning at the time a referral completes is the number that counts — not a figure quoted ahead of time.
