Two Orders in One Canadian Household: Cap, Codes and Account Holders

The cap is per referrer, the benefit follows the order, and neither of those is per household. What that means when two cars arrive in one driveway.

Two Teslas in one household raises three questions at once: whose code should be used, whose account ends up holding the reward, and whether anything counts twice. All three follow from one fact — a referral attaches to an order and a reward lands on the account that holds it.

Whose code to use

Not your own. A referral is a transaction between two accounts. If one partner already owns a Tesla and the other is ordering, using the existing owner's code is the ordinary case: the buyer receives the three-month FSD trial and the owner's account receives Tesla Credits.

If both cars are being ordered by the same account at the same time, there is no existing owner inside the household to refer the second purchase, and a link from someone outside the household is the only route to a benefit on both orders.

Whose account holds the reward

The referrer's — meaning the person whose code was used, not the person who drives the new car. Credits are documented as non-transferable, so there is no way to move them to the other partner even inside a marriage. The buyer's trial, by contrast, follows the order and appears on the car that was ordered.

How the cap counts

Per referrer, per calendar year: the first ten successful referrals pay. It is not a household allowance. Two owners in one household therefore have two independent allowances, and neither one's activity consumes the other's. The counter resets on 1 January and unused slots expire with the year.

The sequence that avoids wasting a link

Decide whose code is being used before anyone opens a configurator. Do the comparison shopping first, with no referral link involved. Open the link last, in a clean tab, configure once, and read the order summary before paying. Then repeat the whole sequence for the second car — a second order is a new order and needs its own link.

The mistake households make on the second car

Assuming the account now “has” the referral because it worked once. It does not: the attachment lives on the order, and a household that has already done this correctly is oddly more likely to skip the step the second time.

Two cars, and possibly a third transaction

One referral applies per transaction, so two vehicle orders can each carry one. An energy purchase is a separate transaction again with its own referral opportunity, subject to Canadian product availability — verify that locally rather than from North American documentation generally.

The eligibility check, per car

Model 3, Model Y and eligible Cybertruck trims qualify; Model S and Model X left the programme in March 2026. A household ordering a Model Y and a Model X gets a benefit on one of them, with no warning on the other.

And the provincial footnote

In British Columbia the referrer earns no reward, while the buyer's trial applies normally; in Québec the demo-drive credit is not offered. Neither changes the sequence above — they change what the sharing side of the household should expect.
