A BC Tesla Delivery in 2026: What the Referral Code Actually Delivers

Same referral code, same delivery day, a different outcome for the person who shared it — because BC's rules genuinely differ.

The order: a Model Y, British Columbia, 2026

A buyer in British Columbia opens a friend's referral link before configuring a Model Y in 2026, then takes delivery a few months later. Same code, same delivery-day mechanics as anywhere else in Canada — but one side of this referral ends differently than it would in Ontario or Alberta, and it's worth walking through exactly why.

What the buyer gets at delivery — unchanged

Because Model Y is one of the three eligible models, the buyer's 3-month FSD (Supervised) trial activates automatically once the car is delivered — exactly the same as it would in any other province. BC carries no exclusion at all on the buyer's side of the code.

What the referrer gets at delivery — zero

This is the BC-specific fact that matters: British Columbia residents earn no referrer reward whatsoever, on completed vehicle purchases or FSD demo drives, regardless of how the referred purchase goes. The friend who shared their code in this example watches the buyer's delivery happen and receives nothing — not a reduced amount, not a delayed one, nothing. That's a structural rule of the program in BC, not a processing delay to follow up on.

What the government adds

BC's CleanBC Go Electric rebate is income-tested, and both its current amount and this specific Model Y trim's eligibility need confirming at order time — we're not going to state a number here without re-verifying it against the program's own page first. What doesn't need re-verifying: it has nothing to do with the referral, and it doesn't restore the referrer reward BC excludes.

Putting it together for this BC delivery

The buyer walks away with the same 3-month FSD (Supervised) trial a buyer in any other province would get, plus whatever CleanBC rebate their income and trim qualify for. The referrer walks away with nothing from the referral itself — a materially different outcome from the identical scenario in Ontario, where that same referrer would have earned up to C$325 or C$650.

Why this is worth telling people upfront in BC

If you're a BC owner about to share your code with a friend or family member, it costs you nothing to do it — but it also earns you nothing, unlike a referrer anywhere else in Canada. Being upfront about that before the buyer orders avoids an awkward conversation after their delivery, when the referrer discovers their account shows no credit and assumes something went wrong. Nothing went wrong; that's simply how the program works in BC.

How this compares to the same order in Ontario

Swap the province in this exact example and the buyer's side doesn't move at all — a Model Y delivered in Ontario carries the identical 3-month FSD (Supervised) trial. What changes is only the referrer's outcome: in Ontario, that same referral would put up to C$325 in Tesla Credits into the referrer's account, or C$650 if the buyer adds FSD outright, following the identical delivery-day timing described above. BC is the outlier here, not the rule — worth knowing if you're a referrer weighing whether to help a friend order from outside your own province.

What a BC buyer should still check at delivery

Even with the referrer reward zeroed out, the buyer's own checklist doesn't change: confirm the FSD (Supervised) trial appears in the car's software menu the same day as delivery, and keep the original order-summary screenshot showing the referral was applied, in case any question comes up later about whether the code was recognized at all.
