What Changed in Canada's Tesla Referral Program for 2026

The referral perk itself didn't shrink in 2026 — the eligible model list did. Here's the dated before-and-after, sourced.

The headline change: Model S and Model X are out

As of March 2026, Tesla removed Model S and Model X from the Canadian referral program entirely. Order either car today through a referral code and you get no buyer benefit — full stop, regardless of who refers you or which code you use.

That is the single biggest shift this year, and it is the detail most third-party referral pages still get wrong. Several still list “Model S, X and Y qualify,” the way the program read in 2025. That claim is out of date. Checked against Tesla Support Canada and Drive Tesla Canada’s coverage of the change (see Sources below), the current eligible list is exactly three vehicles: Model 3, Model Y, Cybertruck.

What stayed exactly the same

On Model 3, Model Y and Cybertruck, nothing changed. The buyer benefit is still three months of free FSD (Supervised), applied automatically after delivery — no coupon, no follow-up email. If you are ordering one of these three vehicles, 2026 looks identical to 2025 from where you are sitting.

What changed for referrers

The referrer side did move. A completed vehicle referral is still worth up to C$325 in Tesla Credits, rising to C$650 if the buyer adds FSD (Supervised) to the order. The newer piece is a C$20 credit for referring someone new to Tesla to an FSD (Supervised) demo drive — except this credit is not available in Québec, and British Columbia residents get no referrer reward at all, on demo drives or full purchases. Neither exclusion is buried in fine print; we date and source both on the Québec and BC pages.

A before/after example

Picture a Model X order in February 2026 versus the same order in April 2026. In February, referring a friend into the order could still trigger a referrer benefit under the pre-March rules. By April, the identical order — same friend, same code — earns nothing on either side, because Model X had left the program outright by then. The car did not get more expensive and the code did not stop working; the eligible list simply got narrower. If you are mid-configuration on an S or X right now, that is the one fact worth knowing before you go looking for a referral code at all.

Why the old “$1,300 discount” claim is gone

You will still see some directories advertise a flat cash discount for using a Tesla referral code. That is a leftover from an earlier phase of the program. In Canada today, the buyer benefit is a service credit — three months of FSD (Supervised) — not a price cut applied at checkout. It is worth more to buyers who were already considering FSD and less to buyers who were not, but it is not cash, and it is not $1,300.

Quick timeline

• Earlier program era: Model S, X, 3, Y and Cybertruck all appeared in referral messaging at various points; cash-discount-style language was still circulating on third-party pages.
• March 2026: Tesla removes Model S and Model X from the Canadian referral program.
• Now: eligible models are Model 3, Model Y and Cybertruck only. Referrer rewards run up to C$325 / C$650, plus the C$20 FSD demo-drive credit outside Québec.

How to confirm your own order still qualifies

Check two things before you assume a code applies: first, that your vehicle is Model 3, Model Y or Cybertruck, not S or X; second, that you opened the referral link or entered the code before you started configuring, not after. The order summary shows the FSD (Supervised) trial line before payment — if your vehicle is one of the three eligible models and that line is missing, you likely started without an active referral and will need to restart from the link.
