Timing a Tesla Referral Order in Canada Around 2026's Real Deadlines

The referral code itself never expires. Two other clocks do — and missing either one costs real money.

The referral code itself has no expiry

There is no clock on the Tesla referral code. It works the same way in December 2026 as it did in January. The timing that actually matters in Canada this year belongs to two other programs entirely — one provincial, one federal — and missing either deadline costs real money that has nothing to do with the referral.

Clock one: Québec's Roulez vert ends December 31, 2026

Roulez vert currently offers up to $2,000 toward a new eligible EV, down from $4,000 in 2025. The program is scheduled to end December 31, 2026, with a new EV registration fee starting in 2027. A Québec buyer whose delivery slips from December into January loses the $2,000 outright — not because the vehicle stopped qualifying, but because the calendar page turned. The referral's 3-month FSD (Supervised) trial is unaffected either way; it is Roulez vert that is time-boxed, not the referral.

Clock two: the federal EVAP window opens February 16, 2026

The Electric Vehicle Affordability Program (EVAP) runs April 1, 2026 through March 31, 2031, funding permitting, with purchases eligible from February 16, 2026 onward under a final-transaction-value cap of up to $5,000. "Funding permitting" is doing real work in that sentence: a program that can run out of allocated funding before its stated end date is one where ordering earlier in a program year is the lower-risk move, not a guarantee either way. Confirm current funding status before you rely on it.

What genuinely doesn't need timing

The eligible model list (Model 3, Model Y, Cybertruck) has been stable since Model S and Model X were removed in March 2026 — there is no signal that list is about to move again. The BC "no referrer reward" rule and Québec's missing C$20 demo-drive credit are structural, not seasonal; they don't have a deadline to beat. The one piece of timing the referral itself does demand: open the code or link before you start configuring, not after — that has always been true and has nothing to do with the calendar year.

A dated example: the same Model 3 order, six weeks apart

Picture a Québec buyer who opens a referral link and configures a Model 3 in November 2026, with delivery confirmed for December 2026. Same buyer, same code, same car — but if a production or logistics delay pushes that delivery into January 2027 instead, Roulez vert's window has closed and the $2,000 is gone. The referral's 3-month FSD (Supervised) trial still activates normally either way, and the referrer still earns their Tesla Credits either way, because neither one is tied to the Roulez vert calendar at all. Only the provincial rebate is exposed to that slip.

A practical timing checklist

• Open the referral code or link before you touch the configurator — every time, regardless of the season.
• Québec buyers: ask your delivery specialist for a realistic delivery-date range and weigh it against December 31, 2026 before you order.
• Everyone: confirm EVAP's current funding status and your trim's transaction-value eligibility close to order time, not months in advance.
• Don't delay an order solely because you think the referral itself has a deadline — it doesn't.
