Tesla's Model Y L Launched in the US — What It Means for Canadian Referrals
A bigger, pricier Model Y doesn't mean a bigger referral reward. Here's the flat-reward math, and what's still unconfirmed for Canada.

What launched, and where
On July 2, 2026, Tesla launched the Model Y L — a stretched, six-seat, three-row version of the Model Y — in the United States and Puerto Rico. The Launch Series starts at $61,990, roughly 180 mm longer than the standard Model Y, in a 2+2+2 seating layout, with an estimated range around 325 miles. As of this writing it has not launched in Canada; nothing in the current reporting confirms a Canadian release date.

Referrer reward: flat, not price-scaledThe question we keep seeing: does a pricier trim earn a bigger referral reward?
No — and this is worth stating plainly before the Model Y L reaches Canada, because the assumption trips people up every time Tesla adds a higher-priced trim. The Canadian referrer reward is a flat figure: up to C$325 in Tesla Credits per qualifying referral, or C$650 if the buyer adds FSD (Supervised). That number does not move with the price of the car being referred. A Model Y Standard RWD at $41,630 all-in and a hypothetical Model Y L at north of $63,630 all-in would earn the referrer the identical C$325 or C$650 — we cover the full 2026 Model Y pricing spread, Standard RWD through Model Y L, on our value-breakdown post.
What a Canadian Model Y L order would look like, if it arrives
Model Y L is a Model Y variant, not a new nameplate, so the working assumption is that it would fall under the same referral rules already covering Model 3, Model Y and Cybertruck — a 3-month free FSD (Supervised) trial for the buyer, the same flat referrer reward above. That is an inference from how Tesla has structured other Model Y trims in Canada, not a confirmed Canadian policy for this specific configuration — re-verify against Tesla Support Canada once (or if) a Canadian launch date is announced, since a new trim occasionally arrives with its own fine print.
Why the flat-reward structure matters here specifically
Model Y L's roughly $20,000 premium over the Standard RWD trim is the largest price gap inside a single Tesla nameplate sold in Canada today. If referral rewards scaled with price the way some competing directories imply, a Model Y L referral would be the single most valuable code to hold. It isn't, and won't be — the reward is tied to the referral event, not the invoice total. Anyone telling you a bigger car means a bigger referral payout is repeating a myth we have already corrected once, on a smaller price gap, in our myths-vs-facts post.
What to watch for before ordering one in Canada
- A confirmed Canadian launch date and Canadian pricing — U.S. figures do not convert directly to CAD.
- Whether Tesla Support Canada lists Model Y L explicitly under the referral program's eligible-vehicle list once it arrives.
- Whether EVAP's transaction-value cap is even reachable at Model Y L's price point — at $61,990 U.S. Launch Series pricing, it would sit well above the federal $50,000 ceiling discussed in our EVAP fine-print post.
