Tesla Referral Code Canada — Myths vs. Facts for 2026

If a page tells you any of these five things, it's out of date. Here's the dated correction for each.

If a page selling you a Tesla referral code repeats any of the six claims below, treat the rest of that page with suspicion too. Here is the dated correction for each, sourced below.

Why these myths keep circulating

Tesla’s referral program has changed shape several times over the years, and a lot of directory-style sites simply never update their copy once it ranks. The result is a pile of pages, some of them years old, repeating figures and rules that stopped being true long before you read them. None of that is malicious — it’s just staleness — but it means a reader has no way to tell an accurate page from an outdated one without a visible date and a source. That’s the whole reason every fact on this site carries both.

Myth: “Using a Tesla referral code saves you $1,300.”

Fact: the current Canadian buyer benefit is a 3-month free trial of FSD (Supervised) on Model 3, Model Y or Cybertruck — a service credit, not a cash discount. The “$1,300” figure is a leftover from an earlier phase of the program and does not reflect what a referral is worth today.

Myth: “Model S, X and Y all qualify.”

Fact: Model S and Model X were removed from the Canadian referral program in March 2026. The current eligible list is Model 3, Model Y and Cybertruck only — Model S and X buyers get no referral benefit, from either side of the code.

Myth: “There’s a Tesla solar referral in Canada, just like in the US.”

Fact: Tesla does not sell solar panels or Solar Roof to consumers in Canada — only Powerwall is available here. Because the underlying product does not exist for Canadian consumers, the US-style solar referral bonus simply has no Canadian equivalent. Any page implying otherwise is describing the American program.

Myth: “You can add a referral code after you’ve already ordered.”

Fact: generally, no. Tesla recognizes the referral at order time; if you started configuring without one, it usually cannot be added retroactively. Your only reliable fix, if you are early enough, is cancelling and re-ordering through the referral link — weigh any deposit or delivery-slot impact first.

Myth: “The referral rules are identical everywhere in Canada.”

Fact: the buyer’s FSD trial is the same nationwide, but the referrer side is not. British Columbia residents earn no referrer reward at all — no Tesla Credits for vehicle referrals or demo drives. In Québec, the C$20 FSD demo-drive credit specifically is not offered, though the vehicle-purchase referral itself still works. Ontario and most other provinces carry neither exclusion.

Myth: “You need to pay or sign up to get a working code.”

Fact: a Tesla referral code is free to use, from any legitimate source. Directories that charge owners a membership fee to have their link listed are selling visibility for the owner, not selling access to buyers — the referral benefit itself never requires a payment from the person ordering the car.
