The Tesla Referral Order-to-Delivery Pipeline, Step by Step
One map, six stages, and where each one most commonly goes wrong.

One pipeline, six stages
We cover the checkout mechanics, the delivery-day mechanics, and several worked examples as separate, deep posts. This one is the map: the entire order-to-delivery pipeline for a Canadian Tesla referral, in order, with a pointer to the deeper post for each stage.
Your verified Canadian referral code
3 mo free FSDOpen the referral link or code first
Before you touch the configurator. Tesla generally will not attach a referral to an order that was started without one.
Configure an eligible vehicle
Model 3, Model Y or Cybertruck. Model S and Model X carry no referral benefit as of March 2026.
Reach the order summary and confirm the line
Before payment, the 3-month FSD (Supervised) trial should appear as a line item — that is your confirmation the referral was recognized.
Place the order and wait
Your delivery estimate can move. Nothing about the referral is lost if it does — only its timing shifts with the actual delivery date.
Delivery day: the trial activates in the car
The FSD (Supervised) trial appears automatically in the vehicle’s software menu. There is no coupon and nothing to redeem at the delivery center.
The referrer’s Tesla Credits post afterward
Up to C$325, or C$650 if you added FSD — unless the referrer is in BC (no referrer reward at all) or the reward is the QC-excluded C$20 demo-drive credit.
Where each stage most commonly goes wrong
- Stage 1 — configuring first, then trying to add a code after the fact. Usually not possible after the order is placed.
- Stage 2 — assuming Model S or X still qualifies. It does not, since March 2026.
- Stage 4 — reading a slipped delivery date as a lost referral. It isn’t; the referral’s timing simply follows the new date.
- Stage 6 — a BC referrer expecting a reward that the program does not pay out there, regardless of how the purchase goes.
Why we are walking through it as one pipeline
Pick your stage, not your search term, and you will get to the right level of detail faster. This page exists to be the map — everything below it is the detail. If you already know which stage you are on, jump straight to it rather than re-reading the whole pipeline.
How long the whole pipeline actually takes
Stages 1 through 3 — opening the link, configuring, reaching the order summary — typically take a single sitting, often under an hour if you already know which trim you want. Stage 4, the wait between placing the order and delivery, is the long stretch and the one most likely to move; Tesla’s own delivery estimate is the only reliable read on it, and it can shift in either direction as your build date approaches. Stages 5 and 6 both happen on and shortly after your actual delivery date, not your original order date — a distinction that matters if your estimate slips, since nothing downstream of delivery activates early.
Where the province you are ordering in actually changes the pipeline
Stages 1 through 5 run identically no matter where in Canada you order — the same link, the same order-summary confirmation, the same in-car activation. Stage 6 is the one place the pipeline forks: a referrer in Ontario, Québec (minus the C$20 demo-drive credit) or most other provinces sees the full C$325 / C$650 reward; a referrer in British Columbia sees nothing at all, regardless of how smoothly the first five stages went. Knowing that before stage 1, not after stage 6, avoids a disappointing surprise for the person who shared their code with you.
