If you have never bought a car without a dealership before

Tesla’s Canadian sales process has no salesperson to negotiate a discount with and no finance office to sit in for an hour. Configuring, ordering and paying all happen through your Tesla Account, on tesla.com/en_ca or in the Tesla app — and for a first-time buyer, that alone changes what “delivery day” actually feels like compared to a traditional dealership handover.

Before you go: what to have ready

• A Tesla Account set up on your phone, since the app is where your delivery appointment, paperwork and (later) the car itself are managed.
• Proof of insurance arranged for the delivery date — Tesla generally will not release the vehicle without it, the same as any new-car handover in Canada.
• Your order-summary confirmation saved, showing the referral line if you used one, in case anything needs to be checked on-site.

What actually happens at the delivery center

Expect a short walkthrough of the car itself rather than a sales pitch — most delivery centers point new buyers to the in-app delivery checklist for a walkaround of paint, panel gaps and glass before you sign. There is no coupon to hand over and no separate referral paperwork: whatever the referral applied at order time already carries through automatically, and there is nothing to redeem manually at the counter.

Where the referral itself actually shows up

For a first-time buyer expecting a discount slip or a rebate cheque, this is the detail that surprises people most: there isn’t one. The order summary you saw before paying was the referral’s confirmation, not its activation. The activation itself — your 3-month FSD (Supervised) trial, if you ordered an eligible Model 3, Model Y or Cybertruck — appears inside the car’s own software menu the same day you take delivery, with no separate step required from you.

If you are new to Tesla, not just new to this specific car

Owners can also earn a C$20 Tesla Credit for referring someone who has never owned a Tesla to a Full Self-Driving (Supervised) demo drive — a separate, smaller reward from the vehicle-purchase referral, aimed specifically at first-timers like you. The one exception: this particular C$20 credit is not available in Québec, regardless of who the referrer is or where the demo drive happens.

A short first-timer’s delivery-day checklist

• Bring proof of insurance and your order confirmation; have the Tesla app installed and signed in.
• Use the in-app pre-delivery checklist for your own walkaround before signing anything.
• Check the car’s software menu the same day for the FSD (Supervised) trial, if your model qualifies.
• Don’t expect a discount slip, rebate cheque or coupon at the counter — the referral’s value shows up in the car’s software and, for the referrer, in their Tesla account afterward, not on any paperwork you sign.
