How to Share Your Tesla Referral Code in Canada, Step by Step
The buyer's checklist gets all the attention. Here's the referrer's own six-step process, exceptions included.
Disclosure: referral links use rel="nofollow sponsored". Opening one may earn the code’s owner Tesla Credits; it costs you nothing. We are not affiliated with Tesla, Inc.
The referrer side has its own steps — and its own mistakes
Every worked example on this site is written from the buyer’s side of the code. If you’re the Tesla owner doing the referring, the steps and the things worth double-checking are genuinely different. Here’s the referrer’s process, in order, with the Canadian exceptions built in rather than bolted on at the end.
Your verified Canadian referral code
Six steps, referrer sideFind your code in your Tesla Account
Your personal referral code and link live under the referral section of your Tesla Account or the Tesla app — it’s specific to you, not a code anyone can generate on demand.
Share the link, not just the digits
The ts.la/<code> link pre-applies the code when opened, which removes a step for whoever you’re sending it to and cuts down on typos versus reading digits aloud.
Tell them to open it before configuring
This is the instruction most referrers forget to pass along. If your friend starts building their car first and adds the code after, Tesla generally won’t attach it retroactively — and neither of you gets anything.
Watch for “pending,” not an instant credit
Once they order, your referral typically shows as pending in your account — not paid out. Nothing posts to your Tesla Credits balance until their vehicle is actually delivered.
Know your province’s exceptions before you count on anything
If you’re in British Columbia, you earn no referrer reward at all, on any referral type, regardless of how the purchase goes. If you’re in Québec, the vehicle-purchase referral itself still pays out, but the separate C$20 FSD demo-drive credit is not available to you.
Spend what posts within 12 months of its Grant Date
Since the March 2026 overhaul, referral and loyalty Tesla Credits expire 12 months after they’re granted. Note the Grant Date the day a credit posts, and don’t let it sit unspent past that window.
What you actually earn, referral by referral
A completed vehicle referral earns up to C$325 in Tesla Credits, rising to C$650 if the buyer also adds FSD (Supervised) to their order. There’s a separate, smaller C$20 credit for referring someone new to Tesla to an FSD demo drive — everywhere except Québec. Referrer rewards are also capped; a figure of 10 referrals per calendar year is commonly cited, but re-verify the current cap on Tesla Support Canada before planning around it rather than treating it as fixed.
A dated worked example: one Ontario owner, one calendar year
Say an Ontario owner shares their code with two separate friends across 2026. The first orders a Model Y in the spring and doesn’t add FSD — the referrer banks up to C$325 once that delivery happens. The second orders a Model 3 in the fall and does add FSD outright — another up to C$650 once that delivery happens. Across the year, that’s up to C$975 in Tesla Credits from two referrals, comfortably inside the commonly cited 10-per-year cap, with each credit’s own 12-month clock running from its own Grant Date rather than a shared one.
The mistakes that actually cost referrers money
- Sending only the raw code and skipping the “open it first” instruction — the single most common way a referral fails to attach at all.
- Assuming a BC friend’s referral will pay out the same as anywhere else — it won’t.
- Letting a posted credit sit past its 12-month Grant Date window instead of spending it on Supercharging, upgrades or merch.
